Rules
We will follow the Student Handbook's rules. However, here are a few rules that students should be aware of before coming to class.
The Rule of Ruddick: Respect yourself, your peers, and your school.
The Rule of Ruddick: Respect yourself, your peers, and your school.
- Come to class prepared to work! Effort is the only thing you bring that I can't provide.
- The classroom will be a safe place for EVERYONE!
- Respect the thoughts, ideas, and opinions of others, even if you don't agree with them.
Expectations
As Advanced students, you are held to a higher standard. I expect you to push yourselves and work to become better. In order to do this, you will have different assignments than the Regular Reading class. Here are a few things you may need to know:
- It will be tougher. You will read and analyze high school level material and work on real-world problems.
- You may have to go back and redo work. You will do it until you get it right and show you have mastered the skills we are working on.
- Sometimes people may be working on different assignments than their classmates. This is called "differentiated instruction" and goes with #2.
- We will discuss topics that may not have an answer. You may leave with the feeling that you're a bit lost or that you still have questions.
- Find a hunger for learning and reading.
- Due dates are the dates in which assignments are due. They are not suggestions.
- Expect to have fun in this class. We work hard, but it can also be fun!
- I promise not to waste your time. You will work on the things that will make you stronger, better.
